How to Require Certain Questions while Randomly Selecting Others in a Quiz

Filed Under: Atrixware 101, Chris, Weblearningchris @ 10:03 am

When creating Quizzes using Weblearning 9, you may want one or two questions to appear on every Quiz while other Questions are selected randomly from your Question Bank.  In this article, I will be discussing how to set up a question to be required and create a Quiz using that required Question.

Let’s first take a look at our Question Bank to see what kind of Questions and Categories we have already created. To do this, from your Weblearning account, go to the Create Tab:

From the Create Section, select Manage Questions and Slides:

This will bring you to the List Questions/Slides section of the Create area. Click the Update List button to get a complete listing of all the Questions in your Question Bank sorted by category.

As you can see from my Question listing above, I have three Questions under the category Geography, 2 Questions under the category History, and 1 Question under the category Mathematics.  Now suppose I wanted to create a Quiz that randomly selected three Questions from all the Questions in my Question Bank, but I also wanted to require one of my Questions to appear on that Quiz.

What we are going to do is create a new Question that we will be using as our required Question. To do this, click on the Create tab again, but this time select Add a Question or Slide.

This will bring up the Choose Question/Slide Type  screen, and for our required Question I would like to ask a Multiple Choice style question.

This will bring you to the Create a Multiple Choice/Response Question screen.  Now what I would like to do is ask the students whether or not they feel the test was too difficult, too easy, or right on target for them.

So for Text for this question, I’m going to enter “In your opinion, would you state that this test was:”

And under the Question Choices (answers) area, I’m going to enter “Too Easy”, “Too Hard”, and “Just Right”.  Now since my Question doesn’t really have a correct or incorrect choice, I’m going to click the checkbox to the left of all three of my choices, indicating that all the choices should be marked as correct.

In order for this Question be requried, I need to place it in a Category of it’s own that I can use when creating my Quizzes later.  So, for Category/Objective I am going to create a new category titled “Required” by selecting Use category name in blank –> from the dropdown box and entering “Required” in the input area to it’s right.

If you have more than one Question that you would like to require to appear in your Quiz(es) all you have to do is Create the additional Questions the same way, choosing Required as the category.

Now that I’ve created my required Question, it’s time to create the Quiz.  To do this, go to the Create tab again, and this time I am going to select Create a Graded Quiz.

This will take you to the Publish a Quiz screen.  The first thing I have to do is enter a title for my Quiz; I am going to call this Quiz “Required Question Sample”.  The next step is to select what Categories from your Question Bank you would like to have your Questions pulled from.  Now, as I said earlier, I want to create this Quiz so that it selects three Questions randomly from my entire Question Bank, and then also uses the required Question I set up earlier.

First I am going to tell the Quiz to take my three random questions. I do this by going to the Pick Questions for this Quiz section and selecting Use 3 Questions from Any Category.  That will take care of my random Questions, but I also need to add in my required Question. To do this I need to add another category selection rule by clicking the link Click Here to Pick from More than One Category.

This will reveal several lines of category options for us to use. To add in my required Question(s), all I need to do is check the Checkbox on the topmost line and select Use All questions from Required.

I’ve added all my Questions, so I can go ahead and click Publish Quiz to finish creating my Quiz.

Now that my Quiz has been created, I want to take a look at the Question list for the Quiz and make sure it is set up the way I wanted to be. I can do this by going to the Modules tab and clicking on the Properties link to the right of my Quiz, which was “Required Question Sample”.

This will take me to the Properties for this Quiz/Module page. To view the Questions in my Quiz, I’ll click on the Questions/Slides Tab.

Here I see a list of all the Questions contained in my Quiz, which consists of 3 random questions pulled from my Question Bank (it looks like 2 Geography and 1 History Question) and my Required Question (which I have highlighted in red).

Export into a PowerPoint Quiz

Filed Under: Anthony, Atrixware 101, Test Pro Developeranthony @ 11:39 am

One of the new features in Test Pro Developer 9 is the ability to export test questions (multiple choice and true/false) into PowerPoint.

A small note - this export works only if you have PowerPoint installed on your system.

To begin, select a test, and then click the EXPORT option on the task panel:

Choose the PowerPoint Export option from the list:

The PowerPoint Quiz Properties screen will appear:

From here, you will be able to configure various settings for the output, such as design template, prefixing, response text, and a few others.

Spend a few minutes configuring the export, and then click the CONTINUE button once you have it set up. After a few seconds (or minutes if you have a lot of questions), the slides will appear inside of PowerPoint.

In my example shown below, I choose the ‘green fade’ design template:
